Voicemail Suggestion

Hey all,

I was wondering if there would be some way that the admins could code it so we could listen to our VM on the site, a lot like we read our PM's. If that's not possible, is there an easier way (or any way at all) for the system to automatically send us the VM as e-mail attachments in MP3 format at their recorded sampling rate and quality?

Why not just listen to the voicemail on the phone? If we were to put it all up on the site, it'd take mega bites and megabites, possibly even gigabites.
I think that listening to it on the phone, as is, is good enough. However, that's just my opinion.

I agree with Maddog.

i agree. use the phone system, not difficult

Anything recorded on any telephone system is only recorded at 8000 HZ 4 KBPS mono. As an attempt at comparison, a 3-minute recording at 24000 HZ 32 KBPS stereo is only about 4.5 MB, so 8000 HZ 4 KBPS mono is more like about 600-800 KB. Not everyone has VM, and there are only about 400 registered ZBP users, so if every single ZBP user had 1 3-minute VM, that's about 240 MB, which is much less than the SQL database, audio profiles, and all the PHP for the site combined.

Tiler, your just lazy. use, the, phone! surely that can't be hard for your brain to comprehend? you pick up the phone, dile the number and listen to the instructions.

look it's easy english is not my language and i can do it anyway... so you with your intelligence should not have any difficulties. and if it's because you get charged, don't be cheap. if you don't want to use the phone then don't register, but that's just my opinion.
wouldn't be bad though if we could get an email telling us we have new voice mail like we do with private mail on here. especially for people who make international calls to listen to them so they don't have to be charged for nothing to see if there's new voice mail and then there isn't

yes, i wouldn't mind an email notification either. Or perhaps an SMS notification?

That, is actually not a bad idea. In fact, I'll write an email to the staff list right now, to see if they can't make it so that when you get a voice mail, you can have a check box to toggle on or off about if you want to receive them in your email inbox or not, and twkav, just because you probably only have 1 voicemail, doesn't mean that everyone else does. Other people can choose to archive their voicemails for certain periods of time, thus putting further bloating on the voicemail system. I agree with everyone else. Stop being lazy, and just use the phone system. that seems to be the general consensis.

well yes an sms wouldn't be bad. don't know if they can do it for international numbers though

Personally, I think it would be cool if one could just call the system and have it automaticly go to voicemail if you have a new message. Or at least say something to the effect of, "You have one new voicemail. Would you like to listen to it now?" and hitting 1 will bring you straight to it, and hitting 2 will bring you back to the main menu.

How about something like sending the VM directly to your e-mail inbox as an attachment in MP3 or Wav format?

john, i like your idea. it can be, after you log in.

tyler, to be honest, i am not sure how sending an attachment of a voicemail is going to work. i just can't picture people calling up the zone by phone, recording there voicemails on to the computer, and sending them. it just sounds wierd. i'd stick to calling the system, loging in, and letting it jump straight to voicemail. oh yeah...and let's not forget, for users that log in, a message comes up saying you have a message, and it will keep coming up until you call it

i don't understand tyler's point to be honest. is it really so hard for someone with your intelligence to dial numbers on the phone? besides if you don't like it you're not forced to do it...

I personally can see both sites. It is not about how clever somebody is but how much they pay to call the service. Some countries or networks charge a lot for international calls. Some people don't work or don't have enough money. But i agree it is optional to register with zone by phone and people don't have to do it. And it wouldn't be called zone by phone if we stop using the phone lol.
